Discovering Janu: A New Chapter in Luxury Hospitality
When it comes to luxury hospitality, the name Aman is synonymous with tranquility, exclusivity, and an unparalleled connection with nature. Now, the esteemed brand is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of Janu, a new sub-brand that promises to bring a fresh perspective to the luxury travel experience.
The Concept Behind Janu
Janu, which means “soul” in Sanskrit, is designed to offer a vibrant and social atmosphere, contrasting with the serene ambiance of its parent brand. The name itself encapsulates the essence of Janu’s mission: to provide a space where guests can connect, explore, and find balance.
Design and Architecture
Janu’s design philosophy is a blend of contemporary art and local culture, creating a unique atmosphere that reflects the spirit of each destination. The brand’s creative director emphasizes the importance of incorporating local elements into the design, ensuring that each property has a distinct character.
For example, the Black Mountain Janu in Montenegro, designed by the London-based architectural firm ELSTIC, features a modern, layered facade that seamlessly integrates with the lush forest surroundings. The use of glass materials adds a sense of lightness and openness to the building, making it appear almost ethereal.
Janu Tokyo: A Social Hub in the Heart of the City
Janu Tokyo, the brand’s first hotel in Japan, is set to open its doors in the fall of 2023. Located in the bustling Azabudai Hills neighborhood, the hotel will offer a vibrant social hub for guests to unwind and connect with others.
The hotel, designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners, spans 13 floors and features 122 spacious guest rooms, each with large floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies. The rooms range from 55 square meters (璞崕瀹㈡埧) to 284 square meters (Janu Suite), with many offering panoramic views of Tokyo Tower or the scenic Roppongi Hills.
Experiential Offerings
Janu Tokyo is committed to providing an immersive experience that celebrates the city’s rich cultural tapestry. The hotel will feature six restaurants and bars, including a patisserie, an Italian restaurant, and a barbecue restaurant with an open kitchen and bar. Additionally, there will be a Japanese restaurant offering sushi and yakitori, as well as a Chinese restaurant.
For those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, Janu Wellness Centre, spanning 4,000 square meters, will be one of the largest wellness facilities in Tokyo’s luxury hotel scene. The facility includes five fitness studios offering indoor cycling, boxing, aerial yoga, Pilates, and simulated golf, as well as seven treatment rooms equipped with functional and circular training equipment.
Janu: A New Chapter in Luxury Hospitality
With the introduction of Janu, Aman is poised to redefine the luxury travel experience. By focusing on social connections, cultural immersion, and a commitment to wellness, Janu is set to become a favorite among discerning travelers seeking a unique and memorable stay.
